GLOBAL WARMING??????
WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING???
WHAT DOES IT DO?
THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT.

WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?
The term global wrming refers to the rise in the mean temperatures of the world and its atmosphere, widely believed to be caused by the greenhouse effect.
Put simply:
Global warming is just the world heating up,
but its consequences are huge.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Global warming causes/will cause
-a global food and water shortage.
-sea level rise
-ice caps melting
-frequent class 5 storms
-death of millions of species of wild life
-more acidic oceans
-'miniature ice age' across europe
-frequent wild fires, droughts and heatwaves.
THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
From the beginning:
Global warming is caused by 'greenhouse gases', or more accurately, too many.
Our world recieves most of its surface heat from the sun. if there was no atmosphere the surface of our earth would be very hot on one side (the side facing the sun) and frigid on the other side the side facing away from the sun), not to mention there would be no life. The reason that our world isn't like this is because gases in the atmosphere (e.g carbon dioxide/CO2, water vapor, nitros oxide and methane.) trap heat from the sun, while the ozone layer (a layer of O3) reflects most of the UV rays.

Global warming is caused by too many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, therefore trapping more heat and warming the earth.
THE EVIDENCE.
1: The earths temperatures have risen 0.8 degrees celcius in since 1880
2: scientists are able to drill down into the ice in the polar ice caps, the ice they pull out is centuarys old and are able to tell us what the temperature and the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere at that time, this has revealed that the last twenty years were possibly the hottest for several milennia.
3: 'sunfish' are tropical fish, in summer you can see them in cornwall.
4:artic ice is dissappearing, at the rate its menting, it could be gone by 2040.
5:the coral reefs, which are sensitive to changes in temperature, are facing the worst 'bleaching' (dying off due to stress) ever recorded.
6:the oceans are becoming more acidic. water can absorb carbon dioxide, but when it does the 'PH' balance changes from neutral to acid.
WHY US!!??
or more specifically, why our planet;
HUMAN EMISSIONS.
most scientists believe that human emissions have caused all or most of the current global warming.
Industrialization, deforestation and agriculture have affected the amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
most power plants burn coal to make the electricity, cars burn petrol, trucks burn diesel, ships burn oil and planes burn a.v. gas, all of this burning creates carbon dioxide, which is let out into the atmosphere. Before industrialisation, oil was only burnt in oil lamps, and was rare, romans in britian used coal to warm bath houses and aztecs used coal for cooking and ornaments. The ice cores from before industrialization show that the amount of greenhouse gas levels were low but they rose as industrialization set in. China alone opens two new coal power plants every month.
deforestation means that, as well as destroying the habitats of millions of animals, there are less plants around to absorb the carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen, leading to less carbon dioxide being taken from the atmosphere.
agriculture is one of the most common occupations in the world. an estimated 80% of all greeen house gases come from livestock. the food for the livestock is factory producced and then transported by truck to the livestocks mouths, then add the deforestation to get the land they live on, the transport of the milk/meat/eggs/etc.
